Tell Your Story
Your experience
Why your story matters
We often overlook how frequently we tell stories. Typically, we aim to share an experience, explain what happened and describe how we’re feeling about it. We rarely recognize that nearly all of our experiences are conveyed as stories. Even less do we realize that the way we share these experiences influences what happens next in our lives.
- Research shows that how we make sense out of our experiences—how we share those stories—impacts our health and well-being.
- People who struggle to make sense of significant life events tend to have lower well-being and more mental illness.
- Those who can integrate their experiences generally have higher well-being and fewer mental health issues.
- Viewing past suffering in a redemptive light often leads to higher well-being and more meaningful relationships.
- Telling a better story doesn’t just predict feeling better; it precedes feeling better.
How we share our experiences—how we tell our stories—actually has the power to heal us. You won’t achieve the life you desire until you find the story you seek. The most effective way to take control of your life is to take responsibility for how you interpret your story.
“We don’t tell our stories to merely share who we are, we tell them to change who we are. Yet, most people have no idea who they really are simply because they never took the time learn how to tell their own story.”

My Specialty
The hidden meaning of your story
My specialty is in pulling your story out of you in a way that you’ve never considered, and help you learn how to tell your story so that there’s more of you to share in the chapters that follow. But our self-stories can change from both the inside-out and the outside-in, meaning that sometimes we’ll start by addressing problems with the story itself as a way of getting traction on the behaviors. Other times, we’ll start out by implementing principles of behavior change as a way of gaining access to the deeper stuff. The two of us will work closely together to build a personalized and practical plan that works for you. My primary objective for each client is to help them reach a point that they have access to the necessary resources, along with an adequate skillset to be able to assume full responsibility for their own story and their own recovery.
I tend to have the most success treating those for whom other approaches have not been effective. My approach is best fitted for those who feel utterly broken and desperate for change.
